Fogos ("we", "our", or "the app") is a wildfire monitoring application for Portugal. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how it is used. By using Fogos, you agree to this policy.

      We do not sell your personal data. We do not require account registration. We do not store any data that can identify you by name or email.
    

1. Data We Collect

We collect the minimum data necessary to provide the app's features:

Location — used only to show nearby wildfires on the map. Location is processed on-device and is not stored on our servers.
FCM Token — a device-specific token generated by Firebase Cloud Messaging, used to deliver push notifications to your device.
Notification preferences — the cities, districts, and villages you subscribe to for alerts, stored locally on your device.
Language preference — your selected alert language (Portuguese, English, or French), stored locally on your device.
Crash reports — anonymous technical information (error type, stack trace, app version) sent to our servers when the app crashes, to help us fix bugs.

2. How We Use Your Data

To send you wildfire push notifications for your subscribed areas.
To display fires near your location on the map.
To diagnose and fix crashes and technical issues.
To improve app stability and performance via anonymous analytics.

3. Third-Party Services

Fogos uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) — delivers push notifications. Privacy Policy
Firebase Analytics (Google) — collects anonymous usage statistics such as app opens and screen views. Privacy Policy
Google AdMob — displays ads to support the free app. AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier to show relevant ads. Privacy Policy

You can opt out of personalised ads at any time via your device settings: Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising.

4. Location Data

Fogos requests access to your device location ("While Using the App") to show fires near you on the map. Location data is never transmitted to our servers. It is used solely on-device to centre the map and calculate distances to active fires.

You can revoke location access at any time in Settings → Fogos → Location.

5. Push Notifications

When you enable notifications, your FCM token is sent to our server and associated with the topics (cities, districts, villages) you subscribe to. We use this only to deliver wildfire alerts. We do not use it for marketing.

You can disable notifications at any time in Settings → Notifications → Fogos or within the app.

6. Data Retention

Notification subscriptions and preferences are stored locally on your device and are deleted when you uninstall the app. Crash reports are retained on our servers for up to 90 days and then deleted. FCM tokens are kept only as long as you are subscribed to notifications.

7. Children's Privacy

Fogos is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

8. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Union, you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Request deletion of your data.
Object to or restrict processing of your data.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent version. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
